Primarily self-Taught, Dave began making photographs at the age of 9, learning basic darkroom techniques from his father, a physician who is also a painter and photographer. He Continued to take photographs while studying Film theory at the university of Illinois and further developed his sense of narrative, space and light working in the lighting department of feature films.

He is currently presenting A series of lighting seminars for the Levi's film workshop at The Geffen Contemporary in Los Angeles as Well as Completing a book project of very large scale images entitled "Majuscule".

His work is collected worldwide and most recently was awarded an honorable mention in "Open Call 2011." presented by Urban:sanctuary Gallery with the Barnsdall Art Center, the competition was Juried by Jane Chafin, Peter Frank and Edgar Varela.

He lives in Los Angeles.
